Satellite Partnership Signed to Expand Connectivity Across Indonesia

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat), a subsidiary of the state-owned telecommunications company Telkom Indonesia, has entered into a cooperation agreement to advance satellite communication services in Indonesia, together with China Telecom Corporation Limited Satellite Communications Branch (CTSC), PT China Telecom Indonesia (CTID), and PT Skyconn Satelit Indonesia.
The signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement took place in Bogor, West Java, on Friday, January 16. Telkomsat President Director Lukman Hakim Abd Rauf emphasized the alignment of the partnership with the mission of China Telecom Satellite.
“As a satellite operator serving an archipelagic nation with unique geographic challenges, we share the commitment to ensuring inclusive and reliable connectivity,” he said in an official statement, as quoted by
Antara on Monday, January 19, 2026.Under the agreement, the four parties pledged to strengthen the development and technical readiness of satellite communication systems to support sustainable service delivery.
The collaboration also involves close coordination with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, licensing, and operational readiness in Indonesia.
The initiative aims to accelerate the availability of satellite communication services for broad public use, including emergency communications and coverage in underserved and unserved areas, particularly in Indonesia’s frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged regions (known as 3T). ***
