Bandung Mayor Emphasizes Long-Term Solutions for Waste Management

RRI.CO.ID, Bandung – Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan has asserted that waste management remains the most critical challenge facing the city, receiving urgent and serious attention from the Bandung City Administration in West Java.

The high volume of daily waste generation necessitates a response that is not only rapid, but also meticulously planned and sustainable.

Farhan revealed that he has conducted direct field inspections over the past few days. These visits aim to ensure that urban issues, specifically waste management, are addressed with measurable and rigorous action.

"The biggest problem currently facing Bandung is waste. Every day, approximately 1,500 tons of new waste are generated. We cannot simply allow this to persist," said Farhan on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

According to the Mayor, the complexity of Bandung's waste issues cannot be resolved through instant fixes or short-term policies alone. He emphasized the need for a solid foundation, comprehensive planning, and cross-sector synergy to ensure that implemented solutions are truly effective and enduring.

"It is time we establish the groundwork for waste management within a long-term framework, looking five to ten years ahead. This is not a task that can be completed in a day or two, it requires consistency and a shared commitment," he remarked.

Farhan underscored that the Bandung City Administration is committed to tackling waste issues not just through policy, but through concrete action on the ground. This includes strengthening management systems, optimizing processing facilities, and intensifying public awareness campaigns to encourage waste sorting and reduction at the source.

Furthermore, he highlighted the vital role of all societal elements, including the business sector, local communities, and educational institutions, in supporting waste reduction efforts. He maintained that without active public involvement, the waste crisis would be difficult to resolve comprehensively.

"We invite every element of society to play an active role in maintaining the cleanliness, health, and sustainability of Bandung. Waste is not solely a administration concern, it is our collective responsibility," he concluded. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
